Outcomes

Looking back to the insights that were outlined in the agreement for this industry placement, there has been successful completion of the tasks given by the host that reflect what was agreed upon. This includes admin work with patterns as well as social media and design research and the presentation of them.

In the first weeks there has been the task to update some of her patterns to Ribblr, a knitting and crochet platform, in order to keep up with all the other patterns that have been live on her other platforms such as the Jaime Creates website as well as Ravelry and Etsy. Instead of purchasing a PDF on the three platforms listed before, Ribblr has its own formatting which requires the designer to manually insert the instructions step by step into their system so that when users purchase the pattern on the site, they have the ability to cross out the lines as they knit in additional to easy access to video tutorials online for more intermediate knitting techniques. Updating these patterns contributes to more sales as it reaches a wider audience, those who frequently use the website for convenience as well as the functionality of knitting along with the instructions on the site being able to cross off each step and see the progress at work compared to viewing a pdf of the pattern.

Further along the industry placement, Jaime decided to take up a challenge to post every day on the social media platform TikTok. This gave me the opportunity to be able to present ideas for short-form content which allowed inspiration for the challenge as well as future social media content ideas. At the same time, I was able to broaden the different types of content that can be applicable to the niche of chunky knits which is what Jaime Creates is most commonly known for as well as her use of fun colours in her knits. From this, I developed some ideas and presented them in the form of slides that Jaime could also access during the challenge and for future reference as well.

In addition to research and presentation of ideas from it, I was given the chance to inspire and give input in a design for the submission to Laine Publishing for their plan to release a knitting pattern book featuring 52 patterns from people around the world on the theme of chunky knits. I was involved in brainstorming ideas for a new Jaime Creates design, through the understanding of the business aesthetic and analysing the current patterns and the aesthetic that the publishing company had in mind, I was able to blend the two and create a mood board and brainstorm some textures, colours, and silhouettes that may inspire a new design.
